Glory Kill Overhaul – Berserk Integration

Integrates the berserk kills into the rotation of glory kill animations for various demons.

IMO Berserk is criminally underused in Eternal, and as such, there are many lovely kill animations that we’ll rarely see. The passion of the workers shall not go unnoticed, and so this mod aims to remedy that by adding in some of the berserk animations, either by replacing glory kills, or by adding the berserk animations into the glory kill rotation and making them trigger when targeting a specific body part to initiate the kill.

Unfortunately, due to the limitations of current modding tools, I cannot truly add new glory kills to the rotation, and as such I have to replace an existing sync melee interaction (glory, chainsaw, berserk, or crucible kills). In the cases where I “add” a new glory kill, I have chosen to replace the back Crucible kill. This is because the Crucible kills are pretty fast for the most part, and the front and back animations are pretty similar, so I feel that this is the least “important” kill animation. To compensate for this, I have modified the front Crucible kill to also trigger regardless of your positioning. Note that this only applies for demons that I “add” a glory kill to. Any demons where I replace a glory kill with a berserk kill won’t have their Crucible animations touched.

Also, I want to mention the terms front, back, left, right, and above. This is how the basic glory kill positions are defined in the game files, so this is how I’ll be referring to them from now on. Some demons have even more precise triggers, such as front_head, above_front, front_leftarm, left_lower, or left_upper, but they should be pretty self-explanatory. Left/right are from the demon’s perspective, as in their left, not the player’s left.

When replacing animations, I tried to replace what I considered to be some of the simpler animations, or animations that feel similar to each other. I understand that this is subjective (and no offense intended to the workers at id), but hopefully you feel the same way I do.

Here are all the kill changes in Version 1:
Marauder
front (multiple stabs to the face) has been kept, but it is now triggered by targeting their upper torso
Targeting the lower torso now triggers berserk_front (punch out their arms, then punch out their head). crucible_back has been replaced
Note: both kill animations actually focus on the upper torso, but targeting the lower torso was the easiest way to have two distinct triggers

Prowler
front_head (grab their head and slit their throat) has been replaced with berserk_front (crush head with fists from the sides)

Mancubus
above_front (stab Doomblade in their head, then use foot to push against it while pulling the blade out) has been replaced with berserk_above (land on them, then punch them in the face)
Affects both the regular (flamethrower) and the cyber-mancubus (goo)

Hell Knight
front_head (punch then stab head horizontally) has been replaced with berserk_front (punch out lower torso, punch out head)
above_front (land on them, then decapitate with Doomblade) has been replaced with berserk_above_front (crush head with foot from above)

Pinky
above_front (vertical head stab from above) has been replaced with berserk_above_front (rip head apart from above)
Affects both the regular pink and the Spectre

Arachnotron
above_front (vertical head stab from above) has been replaced with berserk_above_front (rip head apart from above)
Note: the Pinky and Arachnotron do seem to have very similar glory and berserk kills for this position

Whiplash
front (back and fourth slices, splitting them into four parts) is retained, but it’s now triggered by targeting the “legs”
berserk_front (grab head and torso, rip off head) how triggers when targeting the torso. crucible_back has been replaced
There’s a weird quirk where if you aim at the head when initiating a front glory kill, you’ll perform the above_front kill instead. Not a big deal, but I’ll try to fix it later

Imp
front_chest (impale them on the Doomblade, then push them off with your foot) has been replaced with berserk_front (grab left shoulder and right leg, then rip them in half)

Tyrant
above_front (eye and head stabs) has been replaced with berserk_above_front (punches to the face, then crushing their head with your foot)
front (cut left leg to knock them down, then decapitate with Doomblade) has been replaced with berserk_front (punch out legs, punch out head)
Note: I actually like above_front, but berserk_above_front is much cooler, and I couldn’t keep both. Same story with front, but it’s pretty similar to back, so that’s why it was replaced

Version 2 glory kill changes:
Gargoyle
front_head (grab their head and cut their neck to decapitate) has been replaced with berserk_front (rip their head apart)

Whiplash
Increased the trigger zone for berserk_front to the head, fixing the bug where you would trigger above_front when aiming at the head
above_front (land on them, then slit their throat) as been replaced with berserk_above_front (crush head with foot from above)

Mecha Zombie
front_head (kick to the chest, then decapitate) has been replaced with berserk_front (rip chest apart)
Note: front_head and front_chest seem to be identical animations (ie. two triggers for the same animation), so that glory kill has not actually been removed, I have just replaced the head trigger with the berserk kill

Revenant
front (knock them down, then stand over them and cut off their head) has been replaced with berserk_front (stomp their left knee, then punch their head)

Cacodemon
front (rip out their eye while pulling on their mouth) has been replaced with berserk_front_upper (kick)

Pain Elemental
Both left_lower and right_lower (punch them so that they spin around to face you, then rip out their eye) have been replaced with berserk_front_upper (kick)

Dread Knight
front (stab under throat) has been replaced with berserk_front (punch their head, then punch away their body)
above_front (land on them, then decapitate with Doomblade) has been replaced with berserk_above_front (crush their head with your foot from above)

Solider
front_head (grab them by the throat, then punch them) has been replaced with berserk_front (pull off their head)
